Can a 12V Light Bulb run on a Ryobi 18V Battery?
I test out a Feit Electric 12V RV/Marine LED Light Bulb to see if I can run it straight off a Ryobi 18V battery
Please click SHOW MORE!
This is a mass-market 12V light bulb by Feit Electric, available at major retailers such as The Home Depot: www.homedepot.com/p/Feit-Electric-60-Watt-Equivalent-A19-12-Volt-RV-Marine-Non-Dimmable-E26-LED-Light-Bulb-Bright-White-3000K-OM60-930CA-LED-12-BX/325372774
It's listed as "12V", but doesn't tell the RANGE of voltages it can run at. So, I tested it. Sure enough, it looks like it works fine anywhere 10-30VDC.
With a simple adapter like this one: 300mpg.org/ryobi-18v-light-bulb-adapter/
the bulb works directly from the 18V Ryobi battery.
The only down-side to this bulb is it's a little on the expensive side. I've found that the LeMeng brand bulbs work GREAT with Ryobi batteries, and they are about 3 times less expensive.

Would you be willing to share some parts with me? I would like to do one as well.
Great videos 1 and 2. How is the vehicle going with the new battery? Any part: coming? Thanks
stuck around to watch the updates, she looks ready to rip the streets! 😂❤
It was a fun project! My daughter had a blast!
Why not use lithium batteries. I have 24 volt 300 ah batteries.
I didn't use lithium batteries because I built this motorcycle in 2007. Lithium batteries would have cost about $10,000 at the time. I've used lithium on later projects, such as the Vectrix. ua-cam.com/video/jfhf1NQobWY/v-deo.html
Teaching style is good
Big help. Just what I was looking for. Thanks for taking the time to post this.
Hi thanks for this video. What is the year of production of the donor car? Is it the same year 2012
Yes, they are both 2012 model year cars.
One question please, how much HP does the motor have and how many RPM does it have, please, thank you
If you get a 300 watt incandescent it will be kind of bright
Buenas asta cuánto puede correr un motorcito de esos???
Any update on project? Cool tractor!
two 9 Penney nails through a 2x4, and a lamp cord. put a 60w lightbulb in series and you have yourself a 60 second hotdog cooker. gets it nice and crisp on the edges too.
I haven't tried, but I suspect you can run 120v led bulbs from any voltage under 120v. ac or dc. I think the 120v bulbs are actually lower voltage bulbs with a step down transformer inside. I have used 120-240vac phone adapters in my EV's to get 5v power for a bms system, running the adapter directly from battery voltage. They ran just fine directly on 96vdc battery packs and 120vdc battery packs, even under heavy load with total battery voltage down below 80v.
No. That's not quite how LED bulbs work. Bulbs designed for 120V AC typically do have rectification and step-down circuitry inside them, but that doesn't mean they can run from any voltage. They are designed for that 120VAC input. You can't just put a 120V LED bulb on an 18V battery and have it work. Keep in mind that light bulbs are going to be designed to be as simple as COST EFFECTIVE as possible. A traditional 120V incandescent bulb CAN run on 18V, but it will only produce a dull glow. Here's an example: ua-cam.com/users/shortsRwQGGQx0_gc
Interesting experiment. Thanks. Although... you buried the lede: Where'd you get that light-bulb <-> ryobi adapter?
Link to the Ryobi light bulb adapter is in the description, and here it is again: 300mpg.org/ryobi-18v-light-bulb-adapter/
I really like your demonstration clean and simple.
Question is how long the led in that bulb will be able to work with that voltage.
A 4Ah battery ran the bulb for more than 8 hrs continuously. No difference in the amount of heat at the base of the bulb whether on 12v or 18v. Maybe I’ll hook the bulb up to the power supply and just keep it running continuously at 18 or 20v.
This battery i want to use for solar system. I have batteries only i need fitting and complete bma please send me price. Thanks
Hi sir i need bms compleat with fitting d without only batterys. Can you send me price
2:50 stay up on your coolant changes!! 😱
they made the housing bolts 10 mm to prevent people from having that socket on hand to open the case and exposing themselves to high voltage.
Great test! I imagine this would come in handy for 24VDC sources, like diesel-powered marine, trucker, and other applications.
LED lamps have a constant current circuit (within a range) so this works. Do not try this with incandescent bulbs. Maybe 5% over voltage can reduce the life to 50%
@@glenndarilek520 yup
@@glenndarilek520 A few years back, my daughter and I built an exercise-bike generator for her elementary school science fair. We rigged it up with a 12V incandescent bulb. The faster a student would pedal, the higher voltage it would go. Of course, some kid would have to pedal REALLY fast and blow out the bulb. I think that was at about 18V on those. Fun to watch though!
Does the 40V battery give out under acceleration due to some sort of current protection? I think I'm seeing this on my build.
Yes, that's exactly it. The Ryobi 40V batteries have an internal overcurrent protection built in. I've found that with my 36V/500watt hub motor bike that if I accelerate HARD the battery safety will kick in and kill power. Unmounting and remounting the battery resets it, but it's a nuisance to do. As long as I pedal to get started and avoid any intentional hard accelerations it works fine. Adding a second battery in parallel with the first means only HALF as much current is drawn from each battery. That will prevent the overcurrent protection from activating. Just make sure that when using two batteries, that they are both the same faceplate capacity and start with them both fully charged.
Now, make real gun out of the nes zapper.
Exactly the video i was looking for. As a non electric guy and love to fly drones who needs charging... perfect video with excelent explaining. 1 thing... where did you get the toolbox? Where online? Thanks very much !
I bought my box at a local home improvement store, but they are available online for mail order. Link in video description or: amzn.to/4ab4yKX
Imagine a hybrid, combining the range reliability of gas, plus the added flexibility of an electric torque boost...
How can I get one of those sensors
did you just paint chalk paint OVER the existing or did you do any sanding to smooth it out? only asking cause i can't find ANY videos of anything other than framing and just painting over rough and chipped chalkboard paint.....
This is a SLATE. It is literally a sheet of stone that was removed from an old school house. I cut it to size and framed it for use as a chalk-board at home. There was no chalk paint involved. I only painted the wood frame. I do not remember sanding or otherwise smoothing the slate. Just used as is.
Only if there was a way to easily recharge that truck, because I would have driven it home. Then that would have been a cool video. Yes, there would have been a few other major details to work out. But still doable.
Hi did you ever get it to run in batteries if so how many volts and what batteries. Thanks
I was able to use this inverter to draw power from my electric car and use it as an emergency backup power supply. Here's one of the videos about it. ua-cam.com/video/xoXNyRgxpbw/v-deo.html
THANKS FOR SHARING THIS GOOD AND SO DETAIL YOUR DESIGN THE POWER BOX.YES, IT WILL BE SO HELPFUL FOR HAMERS AND OTHERS.
Hey, is it possible to make it battery powered and 12 V powered or even find a 18 V power supply how would you do the wiring? Can you let me know?
I appreciate you sharing this all. I'm trying to figure out how to move forward with a thing... but have very little knowledge of how theses hydraulic systems actually work :/
Fascinating video. Thank you, I know what Im in for now that we have a nest. Praying successful as your group❤
70 miles?
Awesome project, Can someone draw the electric circuit please?
You need a spring loaded chain tensioner
So going away from fossil fuels, but decide to burn wood inefficiently to save the planet . Got it :)
he actually swollowed that water too. dang
I've had an EV for six years. Most folks, especially with 100A panels who mainly work from home need a 16A EVSE like this.
3:15 - No chucks behind the real wheels makes me 😬
Good job
I'm confused why convert a perfectly good tractor to electric. When you can get a non running one very cheap and not ruin a working classic piece of American history. Hopefully you sell all the good parts to people that need them 😄. That's a great idea for a more modern tractor because they aren't built to last like that one. Can't wait to see what you do to it in the future though.
Great review, is this self propelled or push mower?
Push mower.
Is push mower relatively easy for women to handle it as I could not find self propelled in 13 inch. Self propelled is easy but size increases , weight increases too.
@@lakshmi5538 I think one of the best features of this particular mower is how light it is.
This is a push mower. It's very light. One of the reasons I had it was because I was injured in a vehicle collision, and now have issues with my knee and wrist. The mower is light and easy to handle.
think im going to use this to wire a dc connection to my battery bank to extend how long it can power my house.
would you have a link to the motor mounting bracket?
No link. It was just a large L-bracket from the hardware store that I drilled extra holes in!
But does it work? No riding video.
It works great! Watching me ride a bicycle is very boring. It looks just like riding any other bicycle, except that I can pedal with less effort or completely without pedaling if I'd like. I'll still try to make a "riding" video some time.
Congrats to all. I wish I could make something like this.
